Sasse Service for high-tech logistics centre at Munich Airport

Around one and a half years after the start of construction, the operating company FMG put the new high-tech logistics centre at the airport into operation in mid-January. From now on, the storage capacities of the airport’s retail subsidiary Eurotrade, the catering subsidiary Allresto and Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) will be combined under one roof in the building in the north-west of the airport. The centre’s total area, including outdoor storage, is around 24,000 square metres – giving the facility enough capacity to offer storage space to companies outside the FMG Group.

The building has, among other things, a 300-square-metre deep-freeze warehouse designed for temperatures down to minus 20°C. In addition, it houses a “fresh service” cold store at 4°C and a high-bay warehouse with space for more than 5,600 pallets. The logistics centre also includes a fully automated small parts warehouse with around 32,000 containers – one area of which is air-conditioned to store and transport temperature-sensitive goods. At the same time, the facility is designed to operate in an energy-saving and climate-friendly manner with innovative LED lighting technology and a photovoltaic system.

The Sasse SFMS team has been looking after the new logistics centre from the very beginning. “We are very proud that our customer FMG has entrusted us with its newest and most innovative facility,” says Stefan Werner, technician at Sasse Group. “The sophisticated technology and environmentally friendly concept are a prime opportunity to showcase our expertise illustrate Sasse Service Excellence.”
