Robotics Proves its Value in Practical FM Applications

From the testing ground through the trial to practical use in everyday operations: The path of robotics in Facility Management is predetermined and unstoppable – coupled with the immediate realization of which tasks digital assistants do not provide a holistic alternative to human skills and expertise. “We see clear efficiency gains wherever we can integrate robotics into our processes,” observes Katja Böhmer, Board Member Operations I Engineering of Sasse Group.

“The emphasis is on integration. Because only through the interaction of humans and machines does an optimal improvement effect in productivity and service quality arise.”

Among the recent projects using robotics, the following are notable:

  • Bristol: Lionsbot LeoScrub
  • Warwickshire: Lionsbot R3
  • Düsseldorf: Lionsbot LeoMop + Lionsbot Rex
  • Karlsruhe: Gaussium Scrubber50
  • Vienna: Lionsbot R3, i-Team Global Cobotic 1700

Primarily, the significant progress in sensor technology and the greatly improved performance and consumption data of the latest generation of robots contribute to this impact. “We have now reached a phase where processes and tasks can be automated to such an extent that it leads to a permanent and far-reaching relief for human professionals,” says Katja Böhmer. “What we could observe during the testing and exploration of new systems in recent years, and communicated as a need for action in the market, has led to remarkable progress.” Among other things, numerous on-site checks have been shifted to digital channels, speeding up workflow in teams. The consumption of energy and resources is also approaching absolute values that are economically sustainable in the long term.

“Especially in the deployment in large-scale facilities such as airport terminals, we have reached a new level of performance thanks to robotics,” says the member of board. “Because at the same time, the system’s teething problems have almost completely disappeared, the satisfaction of the teams on-site has also grown regarding the usability of the tools.” From her perspective, a central challenge in the use of robotics is fulfilled: people gain more space to apply human talents because they can delegate routine tasks to the machines.
